My Lesson from Job.
I’ve been reading through Job for the last couple of weeks and I though it wasn’t audible, it was one of the clearest messages I’ve heard in a long time. God is in control. I am not.
We can do everything in our power to make our lives better, but God controls our breath. Think about that for a minute. Hold your breath for a minute and think about that.
Most of the time it doesn’t work this way but you can…
- Get the extra education for the better job – God can still get you fired.
- Skip eating the fat on the steak – God can still give you a heart attack.
- Make the right choices – God can still take your house and your kids.
Not trying to bum you out, but that’s what happened to Job.
So why do we try at all? Because our God is not against us. He is for us. He is gracious and compassionate and abounding in love and mercy. But His desire is that we desire Him.
In all that happened to Job, he did not curse his Lord and ultimately he submitted to God’s control. And God honored him.
So I think my message was this – It’s ok to eat better and exercise, and to do your best to take care of your family. But first and foremost I need to be seeking the Kingdom, to listen for God’s voice and follow his lead in all the decisions that I make.
