Doing Even without the Details

Oct 3, 2010 by

I was speaking with a good friend tonight about God’s will. He was reminding me that sometimes even Paul – though he was inspired to write most of the New Testament – didn’t always have a solid grip on all of the details of God’s will.

6 And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. 7 And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. 8 So, passing by Mysia, they went down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10 And when Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

What really struck me was this… Paul never stopped moving.  He kept doing what he knew to do – go and preach the gospel.  And God guided as Paul did what he knew God wanted him to do.

Sometimes I think I just want to stop in my tracks and wait until I have all the details.  But I think God doesn’t want me to wait for all the details, he just wants me to do what I know I should be doing.

Great thought, Travis! As one who really likes a plan–it’s not always easy to do. I think there are many of us who could work on this!
